Xiaomi Redmi 6A was quietly introduced alongside the Redmi 6 in China. As expected, the 6A is the watered-down version of the Redmi 6 midrange smartphone. Although they look almost identical, but it comes with a slightly downgraded hardware. The budget-friendly device is here to give light users value for money.

With the Redmi 6A, you get to experience the new Helio A22 chip doing all the work underneath. There’s just 2GB RAM and 16GB storage, the fingerprint scanner is missing, so you have to depend on the Face ID to unlock the device. Lets find out more.
Design
The Redmi 6A has same aluminium body like its bigger brother, with the dual antenna lines, rear loudspeaker and Mi logo in place. However, a few things are missing at the rear, we talked about the fingerprint scanner getting ditched for the Face ID.
One of the cameras at the top left corner is missing as well, so you’re left with just a single camera at the rear. In terms of thickness it measures the same 8.3 mm just like the Redmi 6 and weighs 1g less @ 146g overall. You should be able to get it in in Grey, Blue, Gold and Rose Gold colors.
Display
The Redmi 6A comes with a Full View screen, this is a major upgrade compared to last year Redmi 5A. The screen features an 18:9 aspect ratio and would definitely be more pleasant to play games and watch videos than last year’s 16:9 aspect ratio screen.
The 5.45-inch HD+ IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen on the Redmi 6A is still the same screen we saw on the Redmi 6. It still has the same resolution of 720 x 1440 pixelsand 295 pixel per inch density, it also covers 72.7% of the entire front.
Hardware and Software
The Redmi 6A houses the Helio A22 chip from MediaTek, which was built on the same 12nm process technology like the Helio P22 chip, so power efficiency should be on par. It features 4-Cores of processor which clocks at an impressive speed of 2.0GHz as well.
As expected, you get the standard 2GB of RAM for multitasking, this should be more than enough for light users. For storage, you get 16GB storage space, although you can always upgrade up to 256GB by letting go of a SIM slot. Xiaomi Redmi 6A runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with MIUI 10 on top.
Camera
The 6A is equipped with a single 13MP shooter, this has a f/2.2 aperture opening with features like phase detection autofocus, LED flash, Geo-tagging, touch focus, face/smile detection, HDR, panorama. Since it’s powered by MIUI 10, you’ll still get some AI camera tweaks. Videos of 1080p are recorded @ 30fps, while the 5MP selfie camera has f/2.2 aperture with support for Face ID.
Battery
Powering the Xiaomi Redmi 6A is a 3000mAh non-removable Li-Ion battery with fast charging technology. With the fast charging feature, charging the battery from 0% to 100% shouldn’t take up to 1.9 hours.
