Cubot R11 Review – Entry-level Smartphone With 18:9 Aspect Ratio And Android Oreo

Cubot R11 is an entry-level smartphone with some sleek specs such as the 18:9 aspect ratio and the latest Android 8.1 Oreo OS. The smartphone was announced in January and got launched this month. Let’s take a close look at the Chinese OEM’s latest piece of tech.

Design & Display

Beauty is a strong characteristic of the Cubot R11. The curvy edges of the full phone and the curvy edges of the display are attractive to one’s eyes. The top bezel has minimal bezel that contains not only the front camera but also the earpiece and ambient light sensor. Although the bottom bezel has some occupants, the sides are bezel-less. The volume keys and power button sit comfortably at the right side of the device. At the rear, the smartphone’s dual camera are arranged vertically with a LED flash separating the two cameras while a fingerprint sensor lies beside the camera setup. Taking up the bottom portion of the rear is the CUBOT logo. The dimensions are 150.33 mm length, 71.4 mm breadth and 8.85 mm thickness. With plastic body material, the smartphone dons Black, Grey and Blue colour options.

The smartphone has a screen size of 5.5 inches and a screen-to-body ratio of 73%. The display type is the IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen which has an HD+ resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels. The screen’s sharpness is handled by both the resolution and the 293 PPI. Other features of the smartphone’s display are the 18:9 aspect ratio, 1300:1 contrast ratio and 16 million display colors.

CPU, OS & Storage

MediaTek MT6580 chipset stays at the centre of the park. The chipset envelops a 32-bit ARM Cortex-A7 CPU that clocks at 1.3 GHz speed. This processor adopts the 28 mm process technology. The graphics region on the smartphone has the ARM Mali-400 MP2 GPU at its core. The smartphone runs on the latest Android 8.1 Oreo OS.

The RAM controlling the multitasking functions on the smartphone has a 2 GB capacity. The smartphone’s 16 GB internal storage stores up files and documents. This ROM can be expanded to 32 GB using a MicroSD card.

The front camera of the smartphone has a 5 megapixel sensor that handles the snapping of selfies. The 5 megapixel sensor can interpolate to 8 MP. On the other hand, the rear camera has an 8 MP primary sensor that can interpolate to 13 MP, and a 72 MP sub-snapper. Giving brightness in low light conditions is the single-LED flash. Features such as the f/2.4 aperture, 5P lens, HDR, panorama and face detection are available at the camera’s disposal.


The smartphone’s powerhouse is a removable Li-Poly 2,800 mAh battery.
