Apple released a software update for the iPhone on Monday, and the reason is a lawsuit with Qualcomm in China.
There, a court confirmed a few days ago that some older iPhones violate Qualcomm’s patents. Theoretically, this means no sales in China. Apple does not stick to it and sells the iPhones on. But to be sure, there was an update.
Apple remains- Latest after the update to iOS 12.1.2, there is no problem. But Qualcomm claims that this update will not change. Qualcomm writes that Apple is downplaying the verdict and does not take it seriously enough. You try to disguise it somehow.
In the court ruling that Reuters is in, there is the talk of “software features”. Apple should have software features in iOS for which Qualcomm owns a patent and which one has not licensed. But which functions are those exactly is still unclear.
It is unclear how it goes on, Qualcomm will certainly continue to fight for the fact that the older iPhones are now banned in China (or Apple must agree with the verdict and license payments) and Apple will probably continue (especially after today’s update) sell iPhones.
