The Gionee M6 and M6 Plus received multiple accolades when they were launched last year due to their large battery capacity coupled with their powerful specs. Gionee has launched the Gionee M6S Plus, a successor to the M6 Plus at a recent event in China.
The M6S Plus doesn’t come with a lot of upgrades to the specs of its predecessor, and even in the case of the camera, things have been downgraded. The phone, however, comes with a significant upgrade in the RAM section.

Design & Display
The Gionee M6S Plus comes in the phablet section with a 6-inch Full HD (1920 * 1080) display which uses the AMOLED display tech. The display is covered with 2.5D Glass for protection against falls, but it’s not very strong without extra protection like Corning Gorilla Glass.
The phone has a metal unibody design and has a physical home button centered below the display, with two capacitive navigation buttons on either side of it.
Storage & Processor
The M6S Plus is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 653 processor with a clock speed of 1.95GHz and an Adreno 510 GPU which handles graphics operations on the phone.
The phone ramps the RAM capacity up from 4GB to 6GB, and comes in 64GB and 256GB internal storage variants with support for external SD card expansion up to 256GB.
Camera
The M6S Plus sports a 12MP camera with a f/1.9 aperture and 1.4μm Pixel size at the rear, down from 16MP on the M6 Plus. The rear camera is accompanied with a dual-tone LED flash with phase detection autofocus.
Things stay the same at the front; there’s an 8MP camera with a f/2.0 aperture and a pixel size of 1.4μm.
Battery & Connectivity
The Gionee M6S Plus packs a 6020mAh battery with fast charging capabilities like the M6 Plus, its predecessor, in line with the purpose of the Gionee Marathon series. The smartphone comes with a dual SIM slot with support for 4G Voice-over-LTE (VoLTE). It also supports USB OTG for fast device-to-device transfers.
Software & Hardware
Gionee is concerned about your safety and has included a security chip with ten layers of protection in the M6S Plus. This is further extended by a fingerprint sensor which allows for biometric verification before allowing access to the smartphone. The smartphone offers two-level fingerprint encryption.
The Gionee M6S Plus runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with version 3.5 of the Amigo OS user interface.

Availability and Price of Gionee M6S Plus in China
The Gionee M6S Plus comes in Ink Black colour and will start selling in China as from next week. Its 64GB ROM version costs 3499 Yuan in China while its 256GB ROM version costs 4299 Yuan. The smartphone is already available for pre-order in the country.
