Google Pixel 2 Smartphone with Android Oreo Specs Review, Pictures and Price

Several smartphone giants have all announced their flagship smartphone for the year. While some are already up for sale, some are still awaiting shipping in coming weeks. Samsung released its flagship Galaxy Note 8, LG released the LG V30, Apple unveiled the iPhone X and iPhone 8. All these made us wondering – where is Google? Well, the search engine giant is finally here with the Google Pixel 2.

Let’s see how much it brings to the table spec-wise in the Google Pixel 2 review.

DESIGN AND DISPLAY

As it always is with most Pixel smartphones, the design and overall aesthetic is often simple yet beautiful. The case is no different on the Google Pixel 2. The Google flagship device comes with dual speakers on the front (like it is on the Infinix Smart and Infinix Hot 5). The placement of the loudspeaker according to Google was to improve audio quality to better that of rival phones like the iPhone I and Samsung Galaxy Note 8.

The fingerprint sensor, primary camera and LED flash are all placed at the rear of the device. The volume adjustment keys and power button (also the lock button) are on the right side of the device and they come in different colour; quite unusual. For example, the sky blue colour variant of the Pixel 2 has the power button coloured green, while the volume button retained the same sky blue as the device.

Did I mention that the Google Pixel 2 comes with no 3.5mm headphone jack? You will have to buy a wireless headphone. [eafl id=”24791″ name=”Jumia NG Earphones & Headsets” text=”You can check here for the best deals on wireless earbuds and headphones”].

For visual output, a 5.0 inch AMOLED display is on board. The display resolution of the screen is pretty much decent at 1080 x 1920 pixels and likewise the pixel density; 441 pixels per inch. The display will produce more realistic and deep colours and image and will consume less battery. The display is always-on and it enjoys the latest Corning Gorilla Glass 5 screen protection.

The Google Pixel 2 comes with the IP67 certification which makes it water and dust resistant. This gives users the liberty and confidence to use their devices under water of about 1 meter and for up to 30 minutes without causing damage to their device.

PROCESSOR, OS AND STORAGE

The Google Pixel 2 will run on the latest Android v8.0 Oreo operating system. Seem like the first device to sport the OS out-of-the-box. Likewise, it also uses the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset.

The chipset combination together with the inherent 4GB RAM will ensure sleek and smooth multitasking and phone usage. As regards storage, there are two versions of the Pixel 2; one with 64GB and another with 128 GB. That seem like enough memory but sadly, there is no room for storage expansion as the device doesn’t have a micro SD card slot.

CAMERA AND BATTERY

In this era where dual camera set-up seem to be the reigning trend, Google chose to opt for single camera both on the front and one the rear.

The primary camera on the rear is a 12 megapixels sensor with a LED flash support while that on the front is an 8 megapixels camera but without LED flash.

Keeping the Google Pixel 2 Smartphone up and running is a meagre 2,700 mAh battery. The battery capacity is quite little but may last long due to the low power consumption of the Android Oreo OS. The device comes with the Quick charge technology which will charge up the non-removable Lithium Ion battery in a short time period.

PRICING AND AVAILABILITY

The Google Pixel 2 is speculated to cost around $650 which is about NGN 240,000
