How to configure TIM APN for 4G internet on Android, iPhone and Windows

Have you purchased a TIM SIM card and you can not connect or have you ever managed to surf the internet at high speed with your smartphone that supports 4G LTE or your router? The problem could be in the APN TIM configuration, which if not set correctly does not allow proper navigation. Whether on Android or iPhone, via any key, PC, iPad or modem, to navigate in 4G and use VoLTE you need to configure internet TIM by setting an access point with precise parameters.

Doing it is not difficult at all, there is no need for the intervention or the info of the customer service or even the TIM app. As with the other telephone companies, to be online with this operator just make the configuration from the settings of Android, Windows Phone or iOS, or from the relevant software if it is the internet key and modem. On some smartphones is set automatically as soon as you turn it on with the new SIM card inserted, while on others you have to do everything manually, otherwise, the internet does not work like normal GPRS connectivity.

The configuration is also unique- once you have done the first access to the web with the wap or ibox access point set, the next time the data connection will work automatically and there will be no need to make changes to the settings, just like the lines of the ADSL phone. Ready to enable your connection and bring it to the maximum speed and possibly also to set the MMS on your mobile phone? Perfect, let’s learn how to configure APN TIM to browse 4G LTE on Android, iPhone, and Windows.

APN TIM configuration on Android

Do not be afraid- to configure APN TIM on your Android smartphone you will not need to contact the manufacturer nor call the 119, because the settings are always the same for each device with this operating system installed. It can only change the user interface a bit, and therefore the menu items may be slightly different. However nothing transcendental, you should still be able to find everything quite easily.

The instructions below obviously concern the stock interface from which all the customizations of the various manufacturers start. To configure Internet Tim take your smartphone or tablet and go to Settings, then choose Other and then Mobile networks, Mobile networks or Other networks depending on what will appear. Then tap on Access Point Names or Profiles and select the + key, the menu key or the three dots on the top right to create a new access point. You will see fields to be filled with the various APN TIM settings, in which you have to insert the following in the corresponding fields:

  • Name- TIM WAP on smartphone or TIM WEB on a tablet
  • APN- wap.tim.it on smartphone or box.tim.it on tablet
  • MMCC- 222
  • MNC- 01
  • APN type- default, supl
  • APN protocol- IPv4
  • APN roaming protocol- IPv4
  • Activate / Deactivate APN- activated

All other fields should not be touched. Now select the 3 dots at the top right and then tap Save to save the changes, then select the new TIM APN just created. You need another step to keep your internet connection in 4G LTE always active when available.

Go back to Settings, then go to Other, then to Mobile networks and then to Preferred network type (do not despair if the words are not the same, they will certainly be similar), then check the LTE / 4G item. As for the MMS configuration, you have to follow the same steps as in the previous paragraph, but by entering the following parameters in the corresponding fields instead of the list above.

  • Name- iTIM
  • APN- unico.tim.it
  • MMSC: https://mms.tim.it/english/servlets/mms
  • MMS proxy- 213.230.130.89
  • MMS port- 80
  • MMCC- 222
  • MNC- 01
  • APN type- mms
  • APN protocol- IPv4
  • APN roaming protocol- IPv4
  • Activate / Deactivate APN- activated

Leave all the other fields empty and then use the Save button to also store this configuration in addition to the internet. Now you are ready to browse 4G LTE and send and receive multimedia messages.

iPhone and iPad

Do you have an iPhone? Then the APN TIM configuration procedure is even easier than Android. Go to the usual Settings, then choose Mobile and then Cellular Data Options, then touch Mobile Data Network. There are only 2 parameters that you have to set to surf the internet, while the others will have to leave them unchanged. Here’s what you need to fill out in the form:

  • APN (in the Cellular Data section)- wap.tim.it (ibox.tim.it if you have iPad)
  • APN (in the personal Hotspot section)- ibox.tim.it

Then tap on the Back arrow at the top left to save the access point. Now you just have to set up APN TIM for MMS, if you need them. In the MMS entry in the Cellular data network menu that you have opened before creating the access point, enter the following data in the various fields that correspond to it:

  • APN- unico.tim.it
  • MMSC: https://mms.tim.it/english/servlets/mms
  • MMS proxy- 213.230.130.89:80
  • Maximum MMS size- 614400

Save with the back button and go back to Settings, then tap on Mobile, then on Mobile data options and in the Voice and data option choose 4G to always surf in LTE.

Windows Phone

Of the Windows Phone and Windows 10 Mobile smartphones, there are few left in the circle, but they can still navigate in 4G LTE setting the APN TIM parameters. To configure a Windows Phone device go to settings and click on cellular network and SIM, then on SIM settings. At the manual APN Internet, move the switch to On and enter the following data in the form that appears, leaving the other fields unchanged.

  • APN- wap.tim.it
  • IP type- IPv4

Finally, touch the floppy icon to save the APN TIM configuration. Now you have to set the 4G LTE as default connectivity, and you can always do it from the settings, going to the cellular network and SIM, and setting 4G next to the Maximum connection speed item.

Windows 10

If you have a PC, a tablet or a convertible with the desktop version of Windows 10 and a SIM card slot, you can also surf the internet through the configuration of an APN TIM. To do this place the mouse on the Network icon at the bottom right of the taskbar (you should see the “fan” indicating Wi-Fi or the LAN symbol), click on it and then choose Connect if no connection is active and when you pass the arrow on the symbol indicates the PC as not connected.

When connecting, the PC may request the name of the access point– enter ibox.tim.it in the appropriate field and confirm. If it does not work, go to Start on the bottom left and click the settings gear, then choose the Network and Internet entry. Navigate to Mobile, choose Advanced Options and then select Add APN, then complete the following fields with the data below.

  • Profile name- APN TIM
  • APN- ibox.tim.it
  • APN type- Internet

Click on Apply this profile, then on the Save button and finally on Ok to save the access point. Now you should be able if the SIM card is inserted and the 4G is supported and signal, to navigate without any problem in 4G LTE on the internet.

Configure the internet on a stick and 4G router

If you have an internet key or a 4G modem, it is with these devices that you will have to interact, via the PC, to configure APN TIM. There are usually 2 ways to do this- install a software, ie a program supplied with the device, or access the panel via the browser, by entering addresses like “192.168.1.1” (we suggest you consult your model’s manual to find this address).

The access point you have to enter to make the TIM APN configuration 4G dongle or router is exactly the same as that for the tablet, so ibox.tim.it. But if you cannot configure and it appears too complicated and different than other devices, try to go to the official website of the manager that offers guides for various specific models to configure internet TIM. Otherwise, you can always make a phone call to 119 which is the operator’s assistance number.
