Although the latest smartphone from Google is a more than an appreciable device, it is not without weaknesses. The battery of Google Pixel 3 in fact, is 2915mhA- very little compared to the competition, which settles on 3500mAh.
Why this choice? Some features of the device such as reduced size are the main suspects. These choices lead to some renunciation at the level of components. In this case, the developers wanted to sacrifice our beloved battery.
Why does the Google Pixel 3 battery pay duty compared to the competition?
Assuming however that the technical specifications of this device are excellent, the weight of a less performing battery is felt. What does all this mean? Less room for maneuver in your daily routine, which could be translated on a practical level into a low battery after a few hours of use. Maybe just at a time when you need the smartphone absolutely.
This does not mean that we cannot intervene to try to limit this limitation of the device. Below we will try to unveil some little tricks to squeeze the Google Pixel 3 battery to the max.
Check the details on using the battery
The best way to start solving battery problems is to know what and how energy is available.
To do this you have to take a peek in Settings – Battery and then touch the menu button at the top right. This allows you to monitor battery usage and give you an idea of what is downloading your phone faster.
From this point of view it is useful to take a look at this menu several times during the day to understand the real consumption of the various apps. You may find that an apparently harmless application is actually subtracting many resources from your device.
If you have not used an app a lot during the day but are using a two-digit percentage of the battery, you should consider checking that app to see if everything is working properly or if there is a need for an update.
You will also see if there are strange anomalous values such as Android operating system with insane consumption, which could indicate a system problem blocked or badly synchronized and that must be corrected with a change of settings or simply with a reboot.
Turn off the Ambient Display function
The Ambient Display feature has been introduced by Motorola in its high-end devices since 2014 and has also been welcomed by Google smartphones. This is the function that allows you to keep notifications visible even when the screen is off. It looks good and is super useful for getting information at a glance, but to keep the display on, it uses the battery all day, even when you’re not looking at the phone.
Although the function itself does not have high consumption, working perpetually can have an adverse effect on battery life.
Reduce the time the display is turned off
Do you know how long your smartphone takes to turn off the display after your last action? Well, by reducing this interval you can, in the long run, be able to save something in terms of batteries!
In Settings then View, look for the option to time out. Here comes into play the way you use the phone- for a few 15 seconds is too restrictive, but if you do not use the smartphone to read or spend a lot of time without intervening on the screen may be a useful interval to cut a bit ‘consumption. Those seconds add up and become minutes throughout the day, allowing us to gain precious energy.
Activate adaptive battery
This feature allows the system to limit consumption related to rarely used apps. It is rather prudent about it and should not cause problems with not receiving notifications. To optimize this, just adopt a still image as a background. A good compromise for those who want something cool on their phone on a regular basis is to switch to a “daily” background through the background settings. You can select a category and get a new image on your phone every day, keeping the display a little more animated without having to sacrifice part of the battery.
Use Battery Savings
If you are using your phone when it is almost empty and you know that you have no chance of being able to recharge it soon, change the way you use the battery.
The phone works normally even when it warns you of the approaching end of the energy, keeping notifications and applications intact. To protect that little energy left, however, limits the performance and access to background data of the app so as to hold with the nails and teeth as much battery as possible. This mode is called Battery Savings and, if you use the smartphone assiduously, you will have “met” it several times.
You can go to Settings then Battery to change the percentage of battery with which this feature is activated. Broadly setting it to 15% may be a good idea. You can also add a quick setting to turn it on and off manually when you think it’s appropriate.
Get the most out of your recharge time
The charger included with Google Pixel 3 is a USB-C Power Delivery that provides 18W of power to the device and charges it incredibly fast.
The great thing about this charger is that it is an open standard and there are hundreds of chargers available to choose from. Find a quality USB-C PD charger that is rated for at least 15 W, and your Pixel will recharge very quickly.
Trust a power bank
Beyond all the previous precautions, the Google Pixel 3 battery remains the Achilles’ heel of a very powerful phone.
At this point why not turn around the situation and rely on a power bank? This type of device usually guarantees more refills, takes up little space and (especially on a psychological level), ensures the safety of never being short of battery at the least indicated time.
