How To Get Rid Of The Google Discover Page

If you engage in the usage of the Pixel Launcher, you should’ve realized by now that the far left page is “Google Discover” territory.

Google Discover replaced Google Now Feed so it is not something everyone considers a must-have on their device. With this write-up, I discuss How To Get Rid Of The Google Discover Page once and for all.

This is targeted at those who engage in the use of the Pixel Launcher but as I said earlier, these tips would also be effective on compatible launchers also. The guidelines listed below is precisely for the Pixel Launcher though, so if something different is what you are using, the steps are identical but not necessarily the same.

Some folks love seeing those contents suggested to them but several others just do not fancy it. It’s either I already got updated on the information from a different source, it ruined a movie or TV show, or it just wasn’t effective enough to predict what I felt like reading or viewing at that particular time.

With the Google Discover feed removed or de-activated, the page could still be seen at the far left of the Home Screen of launchers like the Pixel Launcher that are adaptable. But with it disabled, the page was blank. Agreed, there is a button at the top that allows you access to the updates tab of the Google app, but there are better alternative ways to get this done.

Let me put you through how you can do away with this page from the Home Screen totally.

It’ll take just 120 seconds.

How to De-activate The Google Discover Page From The Home Screen

1. Press an empty spot of the Home Screen but make it a Long Press.
2. Click on the “Home Settings.”

3. Then click on the “Display Google App” toggle to disable it.
4. Now click on the “Home.” button to return to the Home Screen. (Getting here, you are allowed to swipe right on the Home Screen to ensure the page is no longer there.)

Google Discover does not just aid the improvement of their machine learning technology by viewing what you fancy (this takes place as soon as you click on one of the suggestions.) Even actions as simple as having your cursor go past a piece of content aids them to learn where your interest lies at any time in particular.

It is an improvement on the Google Now Feed because you are allowed more control of the content the service brings to you. This can be carried out with a feature that gives you the chance to inform it to display less or more of a specific topic. The more data Google receives on us all the better they get at knowing what the wish to know.

Still, several users have observed it to be a battery/performance drainer even when lots of its computations are done in a cloud. If you are like me and you need to get the best out of your smartphone also, then you can de-activate these features that are not of much help.

Getting Rid Of The Google Discover Page From The Home Screen

Although, as soon as you de-activate the Google Discover Feed, that page goes empty, but don’t get it twisted, you still see the Google Logo at the top and the 3-dot menu is still visible should you need to re-activate later in the future. You also get to make use of a button to the left of the 3-dot menu icon that directs you to a unique tab of the Google app.

This is the location where most of your Google Assistant information is housed. You can access this page after getting rid of the Google Discover page from the Home Screen by launching the Google App and clicking on the 2nd tab at the bottom. So the info on that page can still be viewed from a different location.

It is solely dependent on whether you access the page to begin with. If that is not the case, then the Google Discover page to be on the Home Screen is not needed by you. Nevertheless, if you access that page then you can still de-activate that page from the Home Screen while you still hold on to your access to it.

This page is the Updates tab when you launch the Google app. It provides info like the present temperature and weather situation, fast access to several Google actions (like sending a text, locating nearby restaurants, etc,) your calendar events in the future and many more.

To be sincere, this updates tab in the Google app takes us back to what the Google Now page used to be. It would aid your monitoring of several things like upcoming deliveries, ensure you are aware of the bills you have piling up and doesn’t let information of what stocks you are keeping an eye on pass you by.

All of this bungled into the Google Assistant and it now lies in the Updates tab of the Google app.

There are definitely more aspects of Google application that you’ll get to experience in years to come.

  1. It doesn’t work with shitty realme smartphones (for instance realme 8 pro – worst thing I ever had). Same as with google assitance, which can’t be removed.
I used Samsung phone and was REAL smartphone – two clicks and removed ugly discovery channel and completly disabled usless google assitance.
