How to make the iPhone or iPad read a text out loud

If you are a busy person surely you have found yourself in that situation in which you do not have time to read any news from a website or a newspaper. Even if you are a student and you have to copy something by hand from a secure web page you’ve missed someone who dictates to you to take less time. The truth is that your iPhone or iPad can read this text wonderfully well thanks to a function that we will teach you to configure in the following article.

Set the “Read” function on your iPhone or iPad

To be able to use this function, we must activate it in the accessibility settings of our iPhone or iPad. To do this we must go to Settings> General> Accessibility> Read and here we will activate the “Read selection” and “Read screen”.

Once activated we can continue configuring the way in which the iPhone will read a text to us. In this same configuration tab, we can choose to highlight the text that is reading the iPhone as it goes by to know where it is going and also download new voices.

To change the default voice when reading these texts we will enter the “Voices” tab and we have different voices depending on the language. In “Spanish”, we found plenty of voices available from both Spain and Mexico, although obviously this will require downloading a yes package that will occupy internal space on the iPhone or iPad. In addition, we can also modify the speed of speech, customize the pronunciations among other forms of personalization.

So you can start playing a text on your device

Once we have activated these configuration options, we can now see how to make the texts we have on the screen read on our iPhone or iPad. There are two ways to activate it:

  • If you go to a text like an article in The Bitten Apple, you simply have to drag two fingers from the top down. A button control will automatically appear in order to accelerate or decelerate the reading, move forward or backward and stop the reading. If it is true that if the website has an ad you will also read it, that is why we recommend activating the reading mode.
  • If you do not want a whole page to be read, you can also select a specific text and the “Read” option will appear. Pressing will start playback of that part of the text.

This reading mode has improved remarkably as it was formerly with iOS 10. Now it detects the language you are reading and automatically changes the voice to the correct one, although there are some moments where it fails slightly. This is important since we can make any text indifferently text without having to change the voice. Also, remember that this works in any type of application that has a text although keep in mind that it will read everything.

Also, while you are reading you can change the window, which will continue playing the audio in the background and you can always have the control of reading in one of the hidden sides.

Leave us in the comment box what you think of this way of reproducing a text on your iPhone.
