Lenovo K5 Play launched with Android 8.0 Oreo – Review, Specs and Price

The Lenovo K5 Play was launched together with the Lenovo K5 as midrange smartphones that offers great value. The devices looks quite identical from afar, but internally that’s not the case. Unlike the K5, the K5 Play houses a Snapdragon chip from Qualcomm and runs on Android 8.0 Oreo.

Just like what Oppo did with the Oppo R15 and Oppo R15 Dream Mirror Edition. Lenovo is allowing users to choose between a Mediatek powered K5 and a Snapdragon powered K5 Play. Want to know more? Stay with me.

Design

Lenovo K5 Play

Looks exactly like the K5, there’s no major difference in terms of design. The dual rear shooter still sits pretty at the top left alongside the LED flash. Lenovo are really getting better in terms of design to be honest, the glass finishing at the rear is everything.

The fingerprint scanner and Lenovo logo still maintained their position though. The K5 Play seems to be a little bit bulky than the K5, measuring just 7.85mm slim. Overall, the K5 Play weighs less as well with just 155g, it’s available in Blue, Black and Gray colors as well.

Display

Lenovo K5 Play

The three smartphones released by Lenovo sports the bezel-less display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. Hopefully they will soon join the top-notch design we’ve seen on so many flagships. The Play edition sports minimal top and bottom bezel with no narrow bezels whatsoever.

The 5.7-inch FHD+ IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen is better than most midrange out there. Boasting of 2160 x 1080 pixels in resolution and 282 pixel per inch density for immersive visuals.

Hardware and Software

Comes loaded with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 chip alongside an Octa-core processor and 64-bit CPU architecture. The 8-cores of processor on the Lenovo K5 Play reaches a clock speed of 1.5GHz and has a 28nm process technology. In charge of the graphics processing unit, is the Adreno 505 graphics processor.

In terms of RAM and storage space, there are two versions, one with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage. Then there’s a cheaper variant with 2GB RAM and 16GB storage. Both RAM space reaches a memory speed of 667MHz, while the storage space is upgradeable up to 128GB. The K5 Play runs on Android 8.0 Oreo with ZUI 3.7 user interface.

Camera

Houses dual 13MP + 2MP shooters, which has f/2.0 and f/2.4 aperture respectively. There’s a LED flash to help out in low light environment and other features as well. The Lenovo K5 Play also capture photographs with a dimension of 4160 x 3120 pixels. The 8MP selfie camera has f/2.0 aperture face unlock technology.

Battery

Powering the Lenovo K5 Play is a 3000mAh Non-removable Li-Po battery with fast charging technology. With the fast charging feature, it shouldn’t take more than 2 hours to fully charge up the battery from 0% to 100%.

  1. It looks a little above mid-range. But, that’s not to say it ain’t good enough. Lenovo products are made with great standards. And they come with high density battery. This 3000mAh will still last longer than some 4000mAh. The design is quite appealing too. Nice one. ?
