No Pie For ZTE Nubia Z17

Nubia have just announced that its 2017 Flagship – Nubia Z17 won’t be getting the latest version of the Android operating system – Android 9.0 Pie. The smartphone which was released in the middle of 2017 came with some pretty nice specifications for a reasonable price. The device has a 5.5-inch display, Snapdragon 835 chipset, a dual 23MP + 12MP camera, 3,200mAh battery capacity and shipped with Android 7.1.1 Nougat which was understandable given that Oreo wasn’t out yet at the time of the release. The 2017 Flagship soon got the update to Android 8.1 Oreo and that seems to be the end of the road for the device in terms of software updates.

The reason for this decision according to the manufacturer is that the development team has to focus on other devices and as such won’t have the time to work on the Nubia Z17 anymore. This definitely won’t sit well with Nubia Z17 users as it assumed that the flagship was supposed to get at least two major updates – Oreo and Pie before pulling the plug on the development team. This, to me is a bad move especially now that software support has become such an integral part of buying a smartphone as no one wants to buy a smartphone, Flagship or not, that won’t be able to get at least 2 major updates.

Anyway, let us know what you think in the comment section down below. Will it affect their brand and sale going forward or was it the right call so as to fully focus on their newer smart phones ?
