After months of speculations, Qualcomm has finally announced its much touted Snapdragon 821 processor. The Snapdragon 821 SoC is the company’s latest high-end processor in the Snapdragon 800 series.
The all new Snapdragon 821 processor promises to notch the processing speed 10% faster than the current Snapdragon 820 version that is the driving force behind most of the latest flagship device around such as HTC 10, OnePlus 3, LG G5, Xiaomi Mi 5, Sony Xperia X Performance and a host of others.
The Snapdragon 821 processor boasts of up to 2.4GHz quad-core custom 64-bit Qualcomm Kryo CPUs, compared to 2.2GHz on the Snapdragon 820. The speed it would clock at wasn’t revealed by Qualcomm.
Also, Qualcomm did not reveal if this would use the same Adreno 530 GPU, but the clock speed will likely be higher than 624 MHz in the Snapdragon 820.
The Snapdragon 821 processor is very similar to its predecessor in other features such as, integrated 600 Mbps X12 LTE modem, Support for up to 4K Ultra HD and Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0.
According to Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 821 processor-powered devices should be expected in the second half of 2016 which we have already entered.
It had earlier been rumored that the two HTC devices tagged Nexus Marlin and Nexus Sailfish will be powered by the Snapdragon 821 processor, as well as the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 and other flagships expected to pop later this year and onwards.
Qualcomm had this to say about the launch of the latest Snapdragon 821 processor:
