DESIGN

During the construction of the Samsung Galaxy Active, attractiveness was obviously not put in to consideration by Samsung. The new Galaxy S6 Active body features a metal-like body made of tough plastic to fit ruggedness. It can withstand a fall from 1.2 metres. The Galaxy S6 Active has a rugged design that’s engineered for outdoor activities. Run in the rain, camp in the desert, dig in your garden—all with your phone by your side.

It is crystal clear that its maker preferred a tough looking phone – some models even have a military camouflaged design on it. It is no doubt that the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active designed has passed the U.S. MIL-STD 810G testing for ruggedness.

While the original Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge comes in glass and metallic form, its Active counterpart sports a full plastic build with rugged lines and obvious signs that point towards the durability of this device. The phone is a bit thicker, taller, wider and heavier than the Galaxy S6.

This is by far the best Galaxy device we have heard of and ever owned. Starting from the built quality, new TouchWiz UI, performance, camera, IP68 rating for water-resistance and is well protected against dust and shock., and an awesome battery that juices the device just blow up our mind, how perfect all of those go together on this phone.

DISPLAY & CAMERAS

Samsung thought it well to leave the screen unchanged as it was on the Galaxy S5, Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge. The Samsung Galaxy S6 Active is fitted with a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display with a Quad HD impressive resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels and an amazing 576 pixels per inch which aid a brighter and clearer images even in low-light conditions. Movie watching on this device will be a simply superb experience. In short, you have a crispy clear screen here. But the screen is not as curved as that on the Galaxy S6 Edge.

For the camera, Samsung provided a 16 megapixels rear-facing camera with an F1.9 lens and Auto HDR which at the launch event outperformed Apple’s iPhone 6 Plus in terms of low-light pictures.

The super-fast snapper can be quickly launched by double-tapping the Home button. There is also a quality 5 megapixels front-facing camera for selfies, wefies and video calling.

PROCESSOR & SOFTWARE

Just as it had been speculated in some quarters, Samsung’s own 64-bit, octa-core Exynos processor was chosen for the Galaxy S6 series over the more popular and tested Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset. There must be something which we don’t see but that the smartphone manufacturer knows about the Exynos processor here.

The S6 Active is therefore powered by Exynos® 7420 Octa-core 64-bit processor clocked at 2.1 GHz, and backed by the Mali-T760 GPU. You are chanced to use multiple applications simultaneously without any lag time. So you can compose a work email while researching a topic on the Internet – all while streaming your favorite music.

LPDDR4 RAM of 3GB, which the company described as 88 percent faster, supports the processor. The device will be available in only 32GB internal storage models. Samsung Galaxy S6 Active runs on the latest Android 5.0.2 (Lollipop) operating system with an improved TouchWiz User Interface.

OTHERS

It sports a larger battery of 3500mAh, which some users says can take them 4 days on a single charge with no power saving modes enabled. Lots of browsing the net and social feeds and still this battery just keeps on sailing!!! Definitely would give this phone a 1st pick for new phone shoppers.

Power saving modes are available, but didn’t prove to be necessary on most days, and even if the battery did drain, fast charging capabilities allowed for a full recharge in close to 90 minutes. In recent times, fast charging has felt like a consolation prize to make up for average battery life, but the Galaxy S6 Active proves that combining it with an adequately sized battery is definitely the better way to go. Tap Ultra Power Saving Mode at 10% charge and still get up to 24 hours of talk and text time.² Use Fast Charging to power up to 50% in about 40 minutes.³ Or cut the cord and recharge wirelessly.

Finally, when it comes to the software side of things, the same streamlined TouchWiz experience keeps the Galaxy S6 Active snappy, smooth, and about as fast as we’ve ever seen on a Samsung device. The only significant addition is the Activity Zone, which basically limps together S Health, the media app called Milk, and some extra tools like a barometer and stopwatch together for easy access. By default, it is the app the opens when hitting the active key, but it is just as easy to put your own personal fitness application in place of it.

Speaking of personal customization, the theme engine has provided an option for users to change the general colors of core areas of TouchWiz, with replacement launchers and applications available for further changes. A great example of the changes possible is what I’ve done with my personal Galaxy S6 Active, but even then, the core of TouchWiz isn’t bogged down by the tweaks that have been made. The Activity Zone is not a huge improvement for the Galaxy S6 Active, but perhaps it’s better to look at this rugged phone as a powerful yet durable shell around whatever fitness ecosystem you might already use in Android.
