The 2017 flagship smartphone of the Chinese OEM, UMIDIGI, the UMiDIGI S2 now has a “little brother”, the UMIDIGI S2 Lite.
The UMiDIGI S2 boasted featured amazing and top-notch specs like 4GB of RAM, the trending 18:9 aspect ratio, 5,100mAh battery that can provide up to 2 days of uninterrupted usage time, a 6.0 inch display with supposedly 90% screen-to-body ratio, and 64GB of built-in storage. Oh yeah, it also featured a dual camera set-up on the rear.
As you probably already know, the newly released UMiDIGI S2 Lite is a smaller version of the S2 and somewhere between the UMiDIGI S2 and UMiDIGI S2 Pro.
DESIGN AND DISPLAY
In terms of overall appearance, body build and form, the UMIDIGI S2 Lite takes semblance from its predecessors, the S2 and S2 Pro. Actually, there’s a 99% chance you would fail at differentiating the three devices on the basis of looks if placed side by side.
The UMiDIGI S2 Lite has the dual camera on the rear and a fingerprint sensor right below them. On the front, there is neither no capacitive button nor home button. The device’s frontal is almost empty. Only the screen, selfie camera and secondary earpiece play occupancy.
The screen is a 5.99-inches IPS with a HD+ resolution of 720 x 1440 pixels. The display is a 2.5D curved glass with a 268.78 PPI pixel density and incorporated with Corning’s Gorilla Glass system of screen protection.
PROCESSOR, OS AND STORAGE
Being a Lite version, the internal components of the UMiDIGI S2 Lite have been downgraded a bit. The device now uses a 1.5GHz Octa-core Mediatek MT6750T ARM-A53 processor.
The S2 Lite retains the same 4GB RAM as the initial version but with a lesser built-in storage capacity; 32GB. The SIM 2 slot can be used as the SD card slot for storage expansion of up to 256GB.
Surprisingly, the UMiDIGI S2 Lite comes out of the box with the UMI OS, which is based on the Android Oreo v8.0 operating system. While I might have known the UMiDIGI S2 Lite may feature the Oreo OS, I personally didn’t expect it to come with the OS out of the box. Big ups to UMiDIGI on this.
CAMERA AND BATTERY
The S2 Lite comes with a primary 16 Megapixels sensor on the rear and a 0.3 Megapixels secondary sensor. Below the dual sensor is are dual LED flash light. On the front, the 5 Megapixels sensor is decent enough to take nice selfies to burn up your social media pages.
The UMiDIGI S2 Lite comes with the same battery capacity, 5,100mAh as other S2 models. According to UMiDIGI, the battery can provide up to 2 days of usage time. This positions the UMiDIGI S2 Lite as one of the best battery-focused smartphone in the market.
