Huawei Watch 2 Specs Review – A Smartwatch That Has It All

The Huawei Watch 2 is what you call a bigger and better advancement to the Huawei Watch which had a successful run when it was released last year. It has a sporty and chunkier build which is similar to the Samsung Gear S3 but comes with an added LTE connectivity.

The Android 2.0 Wear smartwatch as a price tag of about $300 while its stainless steel Classic model goes for about $370. The LTE version, on the other hand, costs about $400. If you are a lover of sporty watches, then this is probably the watch for you.

With a 45 x 48 v 12.6mm size and weighing 60g compared to the slimmer 42 x 42 x 11.3mm and just 55g Huawei Watch. A shaggy bezel has replaced the original slim rim typical of the Huawei Watch with 5 seconds index markers. The bezel which is stationary that is non-rotatory, so no gesture control in place.

The top button serves as the main app launcher while the button at the bottom opens the watch’s fitness menu or any other app of your choice depending on the settings. It has a 1.2-inch display with a 390 x 390 resolution display which is surrounded by a ceramic bezel compared to the 1.4-inch display of the Huawei Watch. The ceramic bezel angles in at the display that makes the Android Wear 2.0 keyboard difficult to use.

There is a small AMOLED display with a 326ppi which is higher compared to the predecessor and is probably one of the highest pixel density we have seen in smartwatches so far. It is made of premium quality materials and comes in three colours; a paint-flecked grey model, a more traditional black model and a vibrant orange colour model. The smartwatch’s nano sim port is lodged between the lugs instead of having a cut-out at the side for the sim, which is quite commendable.

This is an ideal Android Wear as it comes with a list of feature just like a smartphone on your wrist. These features include a gyroscope, accelerometer, built-in GPS, a heart rate sensor, LTE connectivity and an NFC chip for Android Pay. In addition, there are features like the standard Bluetooth connectivity, Wi-Fi, 4GB memory storage, a Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100 processor and a 768MB RAM which means you get to have a hitch-free experience.

The LTE connectivity means there won’t be any need for your phone in other to receive or make calls with the sim inside. With the sim card inside the Huawei Watch 2 is totally independent, unlike other smartwatches, there is no need to pair your phone with the smartwatch as well as link up with a Wi-Fi network to use it without the sim.

With the Android Wear 2.0 onboard feature like the standalone apps, Android Pay, Google Assistant and watch faces with personalizable custom feature amongst other things. There is also an optical heart rate sensor, built-in GPS and the Huawei Wear app, Huawei Fit. There is, however, a choice to store your fitness data in Google Fit or the Huawei app which requires you to download an additional Huawei Health app to get it working.

The Huawei Watch 2 has a 420mAh battery which will last about two days on the 4G model and three days on the non-4G model. There is also an IP68 water and dust resistant rating which means it can survive in a depth of 1.5 meters for 30 minutes.
