Nokia 9 gets a fingerprint scanner in the display

A month ago, HMD Global introduced three new budget phones, the Nokia 2.1, the Nokia 3.1 and the Nokia 5.1. In addition, the company has a new high-end smartphone in development; insiders believe this is the Nokia 9. According to the latest speculations, this is the first smartphone from the Finnish manufacturer with a fingerprint scanner in the screen.

Nokia smartphone with an in-display fingerprint sensor

WinFuture last week released details about the alleged Nokia 9. The German news medium has received documents showing that a device is under development with code name A1 Plus (A1P / AOP). For comparison, the current top model, the Nokia 8 Sirocco, was internally designated as A1N.

For this device, HMD Global would have sought cooperation with FIH Mobile, a subsidiary of Foxconn. One of the highlights of the Nokia 9 is an integrated fingerprint scanner. At first, there were problems with the development; there would be a delay in the system.

But now HMD Global has got a grip on the case by using a thinner glass cover for the screen. The in-display fingerprint scanner will be similar to that of the Vivo X21 UD and the Huawei Mate RS. This is one of the reasons why an OLED display is used, LG Display becomes the supplier of the screen.

It is not the first time that there are rumors about an in-display fingerprint sensor. In March this year, we already published an article that the Nokia 9 would probably have a fingerprint scanner in the display.

Improved camera for Nokia 9

The Nokia 9 would not only differentiate through the built-in fingerprint scanner. The device also seems to be equipped with a new, advanced camera. Exact details about the camera system are missing, but the documentation showed that different obstacles had to be taken in order to bring the development to a good end.

At the beginning of this year, there were speculations that a Nokia 10 smartphone would be in development with a rotatable camera. By turning the camera, you can zoom in and out and also focus. This alleged Nokia 10 now seems to be the Nokia 9. That is easy to explain, because at the time the Nokia 8 Sirocco was not revealed, so it was assumed that this model would be the Nokia 9.

Furthermore, the device is equipped with a 2.8Ghz octa-core Snapdragon 845 processor, it seems to be the first Nokia smartphone that is powered by this powerful SoC. The Nokia 8 Sirocco unveiled earlier this year was provided with the Snapdragon 835 processor.

Finally, the new high-end Nokia smartphone seems to be exclusively intended for the European market. A release is planned for the second half of 2018. It is expected that this will happen around September / October. The coming months more premium smartphones are expected, think of the Samsung Galaxy Note 9, the Apple iPhone X Plus, the LG V40, the Sony Xperia XZ3, the Motorola Moto Z3 and the Google Pixel 3 devices.

In addition, it is quite possible that HMD Global will soon also release the Nokia X6 worldwide. This Nokia X smartphone was announced in May for China and proved to be extremely popular. It is a stylish budget smartphone with a modern design with very narrow screen edges and a notch. Furthermore, this cheap smartphone has a dual camera.
