OnePlus 6 has become the first smartphone of the Chinese mobile phone manufacturer to receive the final stable version of the latest Android OS; Android 9.0 Pie, recently released by Google.
As many will remember, Android 9.0 Pie was released for the first time in April with OxygenOS Open Beta 1 and later with Open Beta 2. Before the open beta, the laptop was part of the Android P Beta program and received several builds of Developer Preview related to the new version of the green robot.
The stable update for Android 9.0 comes in the form of OxygenOS 9.0 and offers new features such as the “Do not disturb” mode updated, a game mode 3.0 with a text notification mode and a notification for third-party calls and the support for color customization. OnePlus said Android Pie will soon be released on OnePlus 5, OnePlus 5T, OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T.
The file size of the OxygenOS 9.0 update on OnePlus 6 is approximately 1521 MB, although it may differ on some units. The update’s Changelog has been published on the OnePlus forums.
As usual, this update will come via OTA – it is therefore a “phased launch”, which means that it will initially be implemented for a limited number of users, followed by a wider launch in the following days. “Using VPN to download this build may not work because the implementation is not based on areas of the globe and is randomly transferred to a limited number of devices,” said Manu J, a member of the Beta Program staff.
For users who run Open Beta builds, returning to the official version will require complete installation and complete cleaning of data and cache. Users of the previous stable build will receive a notification when their update is actually available – alternatively, for those not planning to wait, you can manually proceed by going to Settings, then System Updates and then Check for Updates.
Announced in June this year, the OnePlus software maintenance program guarantees two years of Android updates and three years of security updates on all OnePlus phones, starting with OnePlus 3 onwards.
