Oukitel U18 announced – the iPhone X look-alike with 21:9 aspect ratio

Want a smartphone similar iPhone X at a very low-budget? The Oukitel U18 is your ‘guy’.

Oukitel just announced a new smartphone to its arsenal and to a very large extent, an almost perfect replica of the iPhone X.

The iPhone X is an amazing smartphone, packs so many amazing features like the cutting edge 3D Face ID, badass camera and a full view display. The device is one of a kind, and it is really understandable why so many brands are/will borrow one or two concept off the device. We say so many brands recreate the Samsung Galaxy S8, the iPhone X wouldn’t be any different.

Oukitel U18 is a mid-range device from Oukitel and like these 4 devices, it is also a flagrant replica of the iPhone X.

The device will be succeeding other devices like the Oukitel U16 Max , Oukitel U11 Plus etc, in the OEM’s “U series”.

DESIGN AND DISPLAY

One of the factors that gives out the Oukitel U18 as a replica of the iPhone X is the device’s design. The device comes with a cut-out at the top of the display, a screen cut-out design which is somehow the signature of the iPhone X.

However, a huge chunk of bezel below the display is confusing. The iPhone X doesn’t have that much bezel at the bottom and it leaves me thinking – it’s either Oukitel as a brand is bad at copying or replicating designs or it decided to go down the unique lane and not copy the iPhone X in its entirety, like some OEMs questionably do.

The Oukitel U18 has a dimension of 150.5 mm x 73.2 mm x 10 mm, has a metal body covering and is expected to launch in Black, Blue and Gold colour variants. Oukitel says the new 21:9 aspect ratio will confer a slimmer feel unto the Oukitel U18 but 10mm doesn’t sound or feel slim in anyway.

On the front, the mid-range device comes with a 2.5D curved 5.85-inch glass display with an HD+ resolution and a 275 ppi pixel density. The display is an In-Plane Switching LCD screen and is of decent quality but doesn’t come anywhere close to the quality of the iPhone X’s OLED display.

PROCESSOR, OS AND STORAGE

The Oukitel U18 uses the MediaTek MT6750T SoC which has 8 Cortex-A53 cores that run at a clock speed of 1.5 GHz. In charge of graphics is ARM’s Mali-T860 GPU.

Per storage, the soon-to-be launched Oukitel U18 will arrive with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of ROM on board. The 64GB storage seem like enough memory capacity for some, but for the storage hungry folks who can’t get much stored on their devices with 64GB, the SIM 2 card slot allows expansion up to 256GB via Micro SD card.

The Oukitel U18 runs on the Android Nougat Operating System (v7.0).

CAMERA AND BATTERY

The Oukitel U18 sports a total of three cameras; 2 on the rear and one on the front. The rear cameras are of 13-Megapixels and 2-Megapixels while the single camera up front is an 8-Megapixels lens that can be beefed up to 13-Megapixrls through Software interpolation.

The Oukitel U18 comes with a 4,000mAh Lithium Polymer battery, pretty much the standard battery capacity nowadays amongst Chinese smartphone manufacturers. The battery is said to be very a standby time of 320 hours and a talk time of 12 hours.
