Launched early in the second half of 2017 the Xiaomi Mi 5X is a mid-range smartphone with Snapdragon 625, dual camera and an attractive price. But before we go into more technical details and price, we will check everything that accompanies the Mi 5X smartphone given to us by our partner store, GearBest.
Packaging and accessories
The Mi 5X comes in a white box, standard for most Chinese brand devices, and delivers the variant we received, with 4GB of RAM and 64GB built-in storage. The name of the model is on the sides of the box, while on the back we have some of the main specifications, including screen size, with 5.5 inches. Detail for all information is written in Mandarin.

When removing the top cover of the box we see the device, which is placed on top of another smaller box with the accessories. There is a small manual, USB type C cable, the SIM ejector tool to open the SIM card slot or microSD, plus the 5V to 2A adapter and a screen protector film.
Design and Screen
The unit we are unboxing is black, which helps to enhance the beautiful design with rounded corners. At the bottom of the device we have the loudspeaker, the USB type C port and the 3.5mm connector for headphones, which is the joy of many users.
Above the screen we see another speaker and the front camera, while at the top is the infrared blaster that allows to turn the smartphone into a universal remote control, something common in most Xiaomi smartphones.
On the left side is the hybrid slot for SIM or microSD cards, on the opposite side is the power button and volume controller, while on the back we see the manufacturer’s brand logo, the fingerprint sensor for digital reading and the awesome dual camera with LED flash at top left on the rear. The device provides a pleasant grip and feel of robustness that make it an interesting mid-range device, at least in design.
The screen is in the size of the new standard of the market, 5.5 inches, with Full HD resolution that should please most users.

There are a few Xiaomi applications preinstalled and when we went into the update option we saw that MIUI 9 was available, since the device came from the factory with MIUI 8. But you should note that the Android 7.1.2 version did not change in the update of the MIUI for Mi 5X.
It is interesting to note that Mi 5X already has an alternative ROM that brings pure Android present in its brother Mi A1, and, of course, a solution that brings many languages to the device.

Camera and battery
Looking at the camera app, it is noticeable that it brings nothing different than what we have seen on other branded devices. In the initial screen we have quick access to options of flash, HDR, filters, among other modes. Although the Mi 5X does not have the visual appeal of an infinite screen, Xiaomi bet on the Dual camera with two 12MP sensors (one with 26mm f / 2.2, while the other works on 50mm f / 2.6.
Both the rear set and the 5MP front camera will be tested more deeply in our official review within a few days. When we can say if the set pays for photos and videos.
