LG has launched another flagship smartphone with high-end hardware and software.
The smartphone sports a bezel-less display with a large screen size that has a notch on the top which is not that big coming similar to the iPhone XS Max smartphone. Both phones do not only look alike on design, but they also pack a powerful hardware on the inside. We will be comparing the LG V40 thinQ with the iPhone XS Max.

LG V40 thinQ VS iPhone XS Max – Design Comparison

Taking another look on both phones, you will notice the resemblance only from afar, but in a closer look, they are a little bit different on the front. They have a narrow bezel and on the front, the LG has a small notch while the iPhone XS Max has a wider notch. Both phones are built with glass and metal. The LG V40 thinQ features an Aluminium Alloy while the iPhone XS Max is built with stainless steel material.

The LG V40 thinQ has body dimensions of 6.25 x 2.98 x 0.3 inch and weigh 169 gram, while the iPhone XS Max has body dimensions of 6.2 x 3.05 x 0.3 inches and weight 208 gram. This shows that the LG V40 thinQ is lighter than it’s rival. Both phones have IP68 making them both dust and water resistant. The LG V40 thinQ hasMIL-STDD-810 certification with corning gorilla glass 5 while the iPhone XS Max features the most durable glass ever as claimed by the maker.

They feature a smooth panel with two camera set-up and the iPhone XS Max lack a fingerprint scanner instead you will get Face ID for security. The LG V40 thinQ has a USB-C (2.0) port and a 3.5mm headphone jack which will enable the 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC for audio. The iPhone XS Max, on the other hand, has a stereo audio out of its speakers, while the LG V40 thinQ has a mono speaker which will produce great sound.

On the display, both phones feature a similar display size. The LG V40 thinQ has a 6.4-inch, 19.5:9 OLED display whereas the iPhone XS Max has a 6.5-inch, 19.5:9 OLED display.
They have a notch on the top of the screen which increases the screen to body ratio of both phones.  The LG V40 thinQ has a 3120 x 1440 resolution and 636.92ppi which is perfect for clear visuals, while the iPhone XS Max has a 2688 x 1242 resolution and 458ppi which offers HDR10 and Dolby Vision support and can also boast 625 nits brightness.  It’s clear that the iPhone XS Max will offer enjoyable and beautiful content viewing that the LG V40 thinQ smartphone.

The LG V40 has a triple rear camera of 12MP standard with optical image stabilization, a wide f/1.5 aperture, and large 1.4-micron pixels. The secondary sensors in the back are a 16MP wide-angle camera (f/1.9, 107-degree FOV) and a 12MP telephoto camera (f/2.4, 45-degree FOV, 2x optical zoom).  This means the phone is equipped with three cameras on the back. The iPhone XS Max on the hand has a dual rear camera of 12MP. One sensor has a f/1.8 aperture and 1.4-micron pixels and another with a f/2.4 aperture and 2x optical zoom. Both cameras will perform well in terms of image quality and videos shooting because they have support for 4K video recording.

For selfies, the LG V40 thinQ offers a combo cameras hidden on the notch. It has an 8MP sensor with a f/1.9 aperture and 80-degree FOV while the other 5MP sensor features /2.2 wide-angle lens for a 90-degree FOV. The iPhone XS Max is blessed with a front facing camera of 7MP (f/2.2) with facial sensors that offer Animoji and Emoji.

The LG V40 thinQ is powered by Android 8.1 Oreo with Snapdragon 845 chipset coupled with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage which is expandable. The iPhone XS Max has an iOS 12 with Apple’s latest A12 Bionic chip. The onboard storage start from 64GB, 256GB, or 512GB depending on how much you are willing to pay.

On the battery capacity, the LG V40 thinQ has a nonremovable battery capacity of 3300 mAh, while the iPhone XS Max has a nonremovable battery capacity of 3174 mAh with both fast and wireless charging technology just like the LG V40 thinQ.

On the price, the LG V40 thinQ will start selling at a price of $900 – $980 with 64GB while the iPhone XS Max with 64GB will cost $1,099 while the bigger model with 512GB will sell at a price of $1,449.

Our Verdict:

Both the LG V40 thinQ and the iPhone XS Max are great phones. The iPhone XS Max stand a better chance over the LG V40 thinQ even when they still offer similar hardware and performance. The LG V40 thinQ has an advantage over the iPhone XS Max at the price which is perfect for budget minded individuals. But if you have the money, the iPhone XS Max is a wise buy.
