Xiaomi Redmi S2 has officially been launched by the company in China today. The device looks like a more attractive version of the Redmi Note 5 Pro. Like most midrange smartphones from the company, it houses the Snapdragon 625 chipset.
As far as specs go, it runs on Android 8.1 Oreo, there’s a 64GB storage and 4GB RAM variant with octa-core processor. Another attractive feature, is the AI powered 16MP selfie camera which should be more productive than the 16MP selfie camera on the Redmi 5A Prime we tested here. Design
Definitely the most attractive midrange smartphone from Xiaomi thus far, the dual curved antenna lines on this baby is out of this world. The aluminium alloy body comes in three attractive colors that will win your heart over. Of course, there’s a fingerprint scanner at the rear that unlocks the device in 0.1s.
The Redmi S2 ships with the same iPhone X-like dual shooters we saw on the Redmi Note 5 Pro. At the bottom corner, the MI traditional logo can be seen. Turning over to the sides, it measures just 8.1mm slim and weighs 170g, making it light to hold and flaunt.
It’s available in three premium colors, Rose Gold, Champagne Gold and Platinum Silver.
Display
Looking like the Redmi 5 Plus from the front, the bezel-less display is her to stay in Xiaomi’s Redmi series. The bottom bezel is vacant and a little too bulky, while BV the top is busy housing the usual features. Overall, the screen is very attractive, but lets get into the details.
The 5.99-inch HD+ IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen is absolutely stunning with clear details. It has a resolution of 720 x 1440 pixels and 269 pixel per inch density for standard visuals. Apart from dishing out an 18:9 aspect ratio, the screen stretches up to 74.5% screen to body ratio.

Hardware and Software
As expected, it houses the Snapdragon 625 chip from Qualcomm with Octa-core processor and 64-bit CPU architecture. The 8-Cores of processor here clocks at an impressive speed of 2.0GHz with 14nm process technology. Taking care of graphics is the Adreno 506 graphics processor.
There are two versions in terms of RAM and storage space, there’s one with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage space. While the cheaper variant boasts of 3GB RAM and 32GB storage capacity. The RAM space reaches a memory speed of over 1GHz, while both storage space can be upgraded to 256GB. It runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with MIUI 9.5.
Camera
The dual 12MP + 5MP rear shooters are perfect for all your photography needs. The 12MP shooter comes with f/2.2 aperture, 1.25μm pixel size and PDAF. Both camera has gyro-EIS, phase detection autofocus and a LED flash as well. There’s also geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, panorama, HDR and others. Videos of 1080 pixels can be recorded at 30 frames per second. While the AI powered 16MP selfie camera has f/2.0 aperture with HDR and a soft LED flash as well.
