The Nokia 5.1 Plus is a rebranded Nokia X5 for the global market. The device will be available globally in the coming weeks as the 5.1 Plus with no major differences in terms of specs and features.
It’s powered by the Helio P60 chip, this brings AI technology and enhanced features. The 5.1 Plus is part of the Android One program running on stock Android 8.1 Oreo. You also get dual rear cameras and two storage variants. Lets find out more.
Design
The 5.1 Plus looks exactly like the X5 from the rear; it has an aluminum alloy overall unibody and a Corning Gorilla Glass on top. This will make the device reflect light beautifully when you’re out and about.
It sports the same cameras at the same position with the fingerprint scanner underneath as well. When you turn over to the sides, it measures 8.1mm in thickness and weighs 160g overall. You can also get it in Night black, Glacier white and Baltic sea blue.
Display
Right now, the 5.1 Plus is the cheapest Nokia smartphone with the notch. Although the notch here looks wider and unattractive compared to the minimal notch we saw on the 6.1 Plus. There’s another Nokia logo at the bottom bezel as usual.
The 5.86-inch HD+ IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen boasts 1080 x 2160 pixels in resolution and 287 pixel per inch density. The screen stretches up to 79.6% screen-to-body ratio and dishes out a 19:9 aspect ratio as well.
Hardware and Software
Under the hood, the Helio P60 brings AI technology with its 12nm FinFET manufacturing process for the best performance. It comes with 8-cores of processor clocking at 2.0GHz. While the ARM Mali-G72 MP3 graphics processor controls graphics.
In terms of RAM and storage space, you get to choose between two variants. There’s one with 32GB storage and 3GB RAM, while the expensive variant has 4GB RAM and 64GB storage space. The 5.1 Plus runs on stock Android 8.1 Oreo.
Camera
For photography, the dual 13MP + 5MP rear shooters will do the job neatly. The main 13MP rear shooter has f/2.0 aperture and PDAF, while the 5MP shooter underneath acts as the depth sensor. There’s a LED flash underneath, and other internal features like geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, HDR, and panorama. The 8MP selfie camera at the notch has f/2.2 aperture with support for Face Unlock.
Battery
Powering the Nokia 5.1 Plus is a 3060mAh non-removable Li-Ion battery with fast charging technology. With the fast charging feature, charging the battery from 0% to 100% shouldn’t take up to 1.7 hours.
