Google To Release February Security Patch For Pixel/Pixel XL And Nexus 6P This Week

This week, most likely, Google will be releasing Android security update/patch for the month of February for its Google Pixel, Pixel XL, and Nexus 6P devices. As seen in the Image provided by a Canadian carrier, Telus in its recent software update schedule, the security patch for the Pixel, Pixel XL and Nexus 6P on Monday – February 6, 2017.

It, however, seems it is a season of security patches update as it was reported that BlackBerry has also been churning out February Security patches for its Android-based Priv device; although there were reports that the February update by BlackBerry was prompted by reports of Dutch police successfully cracking it hard and rock-strong encryption.

Be it as it may, these moves by OEMs is a laudable development as it goes a long way to show how concerned they are about users security and how far they would go to ensure that users privacy are unshaken, remains private and doesn’t go public.

Still going by the software update schedule provided by Telus, other devices with a February 6 update schedule include BlackBerry Leap, BlackBerry Z10 and BlackBerry Z30. Some devices that have however received their updates earlier, as far back as January 26 and 30 are Motorola E (which received Bug fixes and Security update), Motorola Z (Bug Fix update only), BlackBerry Classic, BlackBerry Passport, Samsung GS5 Neo (IPv6 fixes and Security Updates), BlackBerry Q19, BlackBerry DTEK50.

Though the information may have come from a regional carrier, it is very likely that the February 6 release date will be the same in all the markets given that the Mountain View, the California-based company directly controls updates for these handsets (Pixel and Nexus devices).

Conclusively, Canadian carrier Telus also released a disclaimer stating explicitly that “All dates are approximate and subject to change.”

Any Pixel owner, Pixel XL and Nexus 6P user reading this should expect an update notification anytime today. And be sure to use the comment box to let us know if you got the update today or not.
